Kraamzorg Vlietnest: the essentials

  1. If you are worried

Contractions, blood loss, feeling the baby move less or any worry? Always call your own midwife (verloskundige) first, day or night. If a life is in danger, call 112.

  2. Registering

Register early, preferably before 16 weeks of pregnancy. You can register online or by phone.

  3. The kraamweek

After the birth a maternity carer (kraamverzorgende) comes to your home for 8 to 10 days. You receive 24 to 80 hours of care.

  4. Costs

You pay a personal contribution of €5.70 per hour (2026). Your supplementary insurance sometimes covers it.

  5. Getting ready

Around 30 weeks, order the maternity pack (kraampakket) from your health insurer. Around 36 weeks, raise your bed.

  6. Your language

Would you prefer a call in your own language? Tell us when you register. We arrange an interpreter if needed.

If in doubt, the Dutch text applies. Phone numbers are on our contact page and on your pregnancy card.
