What you get

The kraamweek, from intake to the last day

Kraamzorg is part of your basic health insurance. By law you receive between 24 and 80 hours of care, spread over the first 8 to 10 days after the birth.

Introduction and intake visit

Within two working days of registering, a planner calls you. Around 34 weeks a kraamverzorgende visits you at home: we discuss your wishes, the birth, who helps at home and what to have ready.

Birth assistance

If you give birth at home, a kraamverzorgende assists your midwife. Your midwife calls us in; we reach you within 30 minutes. Every night each team has a kraamverzorgende and a backup on call.

The kraamweek itself

Your kraamverzorgende comes every day. Usually longer in the first days, shorter after that. She looks after you and your baby, helps with feeding and baby care, does light housework and explains everything.

Maternity pack and preparation

You order the maternity pack from your health insurer, around 30 weeks. We help with the rest: a checklist for the bed, the baby things and the phone numbers you need.

What a kraamweek day looks like

Every day is different, and your wishes count. This is an ordinary day halfway through the kraamweek.

  1. 08:30

Your kraamverzorgende arrives and asks how the night went.

  2. 09:00

Routine checks for you and your baby, such as temperature. Everything goes into the care record for the midwife.

  3. 10:00

Help with feeding, breast or bottle, at your own pace.

  4. 11:00

Bathing your baby, together with you or your partner, so you learn to do it yourself.

  5. 12:30

Time to rest. She makes lunch, does the washing and keeps an eye on visitors.

  6. 14:00

Explanations and questions, and the plan for tomorrow.

Who decides how many hours you get?

Your midwife and the kraamzorg team decide together with you, following the national kraamzorg indication protocol. At the intake visit we make a first estimate. During the kraamweek the hours can still go up or down if things change.

What does it cost?

Giving birth in hospital?

Then kraamzorg starts at home as soon as you get home. Call our birth line 0123 45 82 24 when you leave, and your kraamverzorgende comes. Days in hospital count as part of the kraamweek.

What we do not do

We do not give medical advice or make diagnoses. Medical care is for your midwife, GP or the hospital.
