Nervous?

You are not the only one. And you set the pace.

Many people put off the dentist because they find it nerve-racking. We understand. Below you can read exactly what happens at your first visit, and what we agree with you.

Step by step

How your first visit goes

A first appointment takes 45 minutes with us instead of 15. Nothing has to happen.

  1. You call, and simply say so2 minutes

“I find the dentist nerve-racking.” That is all. Reception then plans a 45-minute introduction with Inge Hoekstra, at a quiet time of day.

  2. Coming in without waiting

We collect you from the waiting room on time. Prefer to wait outside? Send a message when you arrive and we will come and get you.

  3. Talk first, in the consultation room20 minutes

Not in the chair, but at a table. You tell us what makes you nervous, and we listen. Nothing happens in your mouth at this appointment that you do not want.

  4. Agreeing on a stop signal together

For example raising your left hand. When the dentist sees it, she stops at once. Always, no discussion.

  5. Just looking, if you like10 minutes

When you are ready, you sit in the chair briefly and we only look. We say every step out loud first. Is it enough for today? Then it is enough.

  6. A plan at your pace

You get a plan in small steps and, if treatment is needed, a cost estimate. We plan the next appointments with more time than usual.

Is the fear very strong?

Sometimes more than time and explanation is needed. If you wish, we then refer you to a centre for special dentistry, where dentists specialise in anxiety support.

Prefer to call first?

Call reception and ask for an introduction with Inge. You do not need to explain anything.
